Critique of the definition of “media release” in the Law on Public Information of the Republic of Lithuania

Abstract

On 15 October 2024, the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania adopted a new definition of “media release”, which does not correspond to the paradigm used in communication science. The article analyses the main features of press releases identified in scientific works and assesses which of them are not properly reflected in the law, and predicts what consequences this may lead to in the application of the new norms of the law.
