Abstract

The article is devoted to the evolution of party systems and coalition politics in Western Europe and Central and Eastern Europe. The main features of institutional and constitutional design are highlighted as the necessary conditions for the democratic development of post-communist party systems. In Lithuanian political party system, a political institutions as a mediator of the relations between the state and society play an important role.
